This is a page for newcomers - people who haven't come to our church, or have come just once. It is mostly a guide to other pages. First, though, a welcome from our Interim Minister minister, Rev. Joe Cherry: Welcome! We are an intentionally inclusive congregation, welcoming people of different ages, inspirations, cultures, sexual orientations and fiscal realities. When you visit us, you'll find that we are friendly, sometimes a little silly, sometimes very serious, and always very human. Like you, we are doing our best to live our lives in concert with our beliefs. [Our minister's E-mail address is You can call (209) 548-9070 for an appointment.] And now, to get you started . . . We are at 2172 Kiernan Avenue, in Modesto. Our
Map and directions page will get you there. If you come 15 minutes ahead of time, you can look around; the ushers will probably be able to find someone to give you a brief tour. We have two FAQ pages for you, We have a short page to answer the question What can I expect the first time I visit? Our Beliefs page will tell you what we believe. While just under half of us believe in a supreme being [read more about that], we all believe in exploring spiritual matters. A woman who debated joining us for a year gave a sermon on her experience,
Freedom Is Just Another Word For Nothing Left to Lose
In April 2013 she wrote: "I'll be talking about how and why I became a member,
and connecting that to our theme this month - Freedom. I always thought I would
have to choose between the freedom to be myself and having a community, but I
found I could have both at this fellowship." About Us is an entire sub-directory. It has a multi-page history of our congregation, and pages for members, staff, committees, and circle dinners. It has two picture galleries, one a virtual tour of our campus, one of our classroom building. Our Sunday Services
page will give you an idea of what we talk about on Sunday. We have several
collections of sermons on-line, from Our Children's page will tell you what we're doing this year. It also has a 130-year old mission statement and an editorial comment on mission statements. The editor isn't fond of mission statements, but he admires courage. We welcome GLBT people. We are a Welcoming Congregation. Our Building Tour will show you our church buildings. We have a special tour of our new (as of November 2010) Classroom Building. Our Faith in Action pages have some more pictures. You'll notice the navigation bar repeats the links above. We have the bar on every page. Our web master thinks being consistent is more important than changing his socks. |
