A liberal religious voice in the Central Valley since 1953.

Your fellowship's Social Action Council premiered the "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices" locally with resounding success last week.

With the Johnson Room unable to hold both crowds, 63 people filled our sanctuary on Sunday afternoon, November 13; 52 sat in on Wednesday night, November 16.

Audiences, two thirds from outside the fellowship, contributed $103 on Sunday, $127 on Wednesday. The council will vote on a relevant purpose for the funds.

Sunday's talkback went for about 20 emotional minutes but produced no concrete action. Wednesday's continued for 45 minutes, and featured a Modesto union leader and a Ripon resident leading the drive to keep Wal-Mart out of Ripon.

They promise to be heard from again.

Fred Herman, who moderated the talkbacks, has two copies of the Wal-Mart movie and two of "Outfoxed" by the same documentarian (Robert Greenwald) to loan anyone who'll do a public showing. Contact the web master if you'd like to get in touch with Fred.
