What's New

A liberal religious voice in the Central Valley since 1953.

These are the progress reports from your Ministerial Search Committee, in reverse chronological order. Sometimes we progress by leaps and bounds, sometimes we don't. We will try to keep you informed.

October 22, 2012: Committee Meeting
We dealt with complications of extending the search by another six months. Read more.

Lego Chalice September 24, 2012: Committee Meeting
Seren's son made us a chalice out of Legos. We welcomed John Swearingen to our committee; he replaced Jack Lackey. Ted Pack and Pat Egenberger will go to the October 20 Church Council meeting. Scheduled Bob Meiss, the PCD Ministerial Search Representative, to speak to the congregation on Sunday, November 4. (ONE service, at 10:00 am) He will explain the search process, and answer questions afterward. We decided to visit as many committees as we can, to get input. We won't start until the congregation knows more about the search process, though.

September 16, 2012: Your ministerial search committee spent 12 hours with Bob Meiss, the PCD Ministerial Search Representative. We got to know each other, and we went over the Ministerial Search process. Read a full report.

August 28, 2012: Your ministerial search committee met for the first time on August 28, 2012. Read a full report, written for the newsletter. Among other things, it tells who we are and how you selected us.

The most important fact in the full report is that we won't tell you exactly who we are looking at. We will invite our candidates to preach before a neutral audience - a church of similar size such as Livermore - instead of here in Modesto. This prevents a number of problems, including members telling us they will leave the congregation if we pick a particular candidate, or that they will leave the congregation if we do not pick a particular candidate.
