A liberal religious voice in the Central Valley since 1953.

Becoming a Member told you that it takes over a dozen people to prepare a worship service. How many? Here's a list, in roughly the order it happens:

1 Decorate the center of worship (Usually Saturday afternoon)
1 Get here at 8 am, turn on furnace (A/C in the summer)
1-2 Open the church, start the 100-cup coffee pot, lay out the snacks
1 Run the sound system
1 Greet newcomers
2 Ushers
1 Service coordinator
1 Board Member (to make announcements)
2 Teach the Children's Religious Education classes
1 - 3 Pianist, musician, singer (s)
1 Minister or Guest Speaker
3 - 5 Clean up afterwards
16 - 21 Total

This isn't an exact list. You can add a dozen people if the choir sings. We sometimes double up; the greeter is also an usher for the early service. We don't have Children's classes for the early am service. We don't need a service coordinator if the minister speaks. Some people - the minister, pianist and choir - do their jobs twice. Opening up and cleaning up just have to be done once. We have different ushers, greeters, service coordinators and board members for each service. Some jobs take practice; some don't. It takes quite a few people to make our services work every Sunday, and they deserve your regular attendance.
