It was the best of times - we moved forward towards having decent classrooms for our children, after 40 years of neglect and frustration. It was the worst of times - Cal Trans moved with glacial slowness, and every regulatory body in our end of Stanislaus County seemed to come up with a couple of hoops for this particular tiger to leap through. Several of them gave us conflicting regulations to follow. It is axiomatic that everything we wanted to do cost more and took longer than we planned, hoped or dreamed. As the church year ends, we are looking at buying a used modular building, remodeling it slightly and moving it onto our western addition. Rev. Grace and Jim Sparkman have put forth Herculean efforts on our congregation's behalf. They both now know more about zoning, planning and building codes than they ever dreamed possible. Most members of the congregation have been understanding and patient with the pace of the project most of the time. If he had a little gold coin for every time our plans have gone awry, his hopes have been thwarted or his work on some aspect of the project has gone for naught, Jim would be a rich man indeed. |
