This year brought many changes to our developing music program. Bernadette Burns has continued to offer the choir improved leadership skills and knowledge, and she earned a spontaneous "standing ovation" from the congregation when the Board of Trustees honored her leadership. Bernadette and Elaine Arnold plan to share the choir directing duties next year Elizabeth Coard has strengthened our program by the high standards of her performances, as well as her advice in searching for and evaluating new pieces for the choir. Elizabeth's students are among the guest musicians who perform approximately once a month. This has been a widely popular addition to our music program. The Music Committee looks forward to being able to present guest musicians next year at about the same rate as this year. The choir had a difficult time early this spring when it seemed everyone who sang couldn't. Since the return of our ailing members, another five people have joined the choir - we call it the "Ever Changing Choir." The work Grace and Phyllis Young have done re-filing our sheet music has made it easier and easier to know what pieces we have and what we don't. The Music Committee has identified the goal of UUFSC developing the ability to pay our choir director equitably for the dependable application of her skills and knowledge to the creation of beauty for our worship services. Unfortunately, financial considerations make us less than hopeful it will happen this coming year. |
